The Gold Rush and the railroad brought steady growth to the town. The first post office opened in 1878 and the town incorporated in 1916. Eventually the railroad and much of the timber industry left the town, and it slowly shrunk in population until it stabilized at its current numbers.
Corte Madera is “twin cities” with nearby Larkspur, sharing law enforcement and other resources with their neighbor.
Corte Madera is home to 9,200 people and has a median income of $91,933. Corte Madera has a long tradition of civic involvement and interest in local political issues and concerns.
