San Anselmo got its first post office in 1892 and incorporated in 1907. The railroad left in 1941, closing when it was unable to compete with automobiles and the new Golden Gate Bridge for ease of transport.
After the railroad left, not much changed in San Anselmo. It remained a quiet town with a postcard worthy views.
San Anselmo is home to 12,336 people. The median income here is $91,933. Celebrities including George Lucas and Van Morrison have called this place home. All of the town residents radiate civic pride, with everyone pitching in to help the city. George Lucas graciously donated two beautiful statues to a city park, one of his famous Star Wars character Yoda, and one of the legendary archeologist Indiana Jones. The biggest focus for most of the residents of San Anselmo is keeping the town clean, environmentally and family friendly. Most high school students elect to go to Sir Francis Drake High School in a neighboring district.
